May 30, 2023 - Melon Local is proud to recognize Mental Health Awareness Month this May.
According to a recent study, about 1 in 5 adults experience at least one type of mental health illness each year.
As a Nevada Top Workplace honoree, we understand the importance of creating a workspace that empowers our team members and facilitates growth and emotional wellness.
In case you need some ideas on ways to make your workspace more positive, here’s a few steps we’ve taken at our office:
No-cost Medical, Dental & Vision
Did you know according to a 2023 Gallup poll, 38% percent of Americans said they or a family member put off medical care due to cost? To make things even more troubling, at least 67% of people with a mental illness say it’s difficult to access care.
One perk of being a Melon — medical, dental and vision coverage at no cost to our team members. This coverage also includes access to in-person and remote appointments with mental health specialists.
Team Library
Easily accessible in our HR office, all our team members have access to reading material ranging from motivation and self-help to business and leadership books.
Reading for as few as six minutes can reduce stress by as much as 68 percent.
Dog-friendly Workplace
It’s no secret dogs have the ability to make us feel better.
Research has shown petting a dog can lower the stress hormone cortisol, while the social interactions between people and their dogs can increase levels of the feel-good hormone oxytocin.
That’s why we allow our team members to bring their dogs into the office — and also for some fun social media content!
On-site Exercise Equipment
It’s not always easy for people to find time to exercise, especially when you have to balance work throughout the day. Thankfully, Melon Local offers onsite exercise equipment, including weights, a pull-up bar and even a treadmill workstation!
Wellness Hour
All of our office is free to take 15 minutes out of the last hour of the day to focus on their personal wellness. This can be anything from going on a walk, meditating, playing video games, exercising or however anyone else enjoys taking self-care.
