Utilizing Your Google Business Profile as an Insurance Agent

August 31, 2022 - Having a fully optimized Google Business Profile (GBP) is one of the most important things you can do as part of your insurance marketing strategy. 

There’s no reason not to have a GBP, considering Google is the most visited website and search engine in the world, and it’s free to create. 

Think of your profile as a Yellow Pages listing that features everything people need to know about your business, including your address, contact information and reviews. Having a fully optimized profile with the right keywords and relevant information can increase your agency’s ranking on Google and make a difference in how many leads you generate. 

After you create your GBP and verify all of your information is accurate, consider the following advice to further increase your insurance agency’s ranking!

Post Consistently About Your Product and Services

Similar to Facebook and LinkedIn, you can create posts to promote your business. Google especially prefers businesses that post more frequently over others. While posting every day can greatly improve your ranking, you should be posting at least once every seven business days.

As an insurance agent, think of all of your products and services you can talk about. A post can be as simple as encouraging people to stop by or call your office for an auto or home insurance quote. Remember, keep things simple, around 100–300 words, and DON’T forget to incorporate relevant keywords!

Focus on Engaging Visual Content

Adding photos, videos and other visual content is especially important in making your GBP listing rank higher in searches.

In addition to adding legitimacy to your business, photos are a great way to add character to your office. 

There are plenty of different ways you can visually highlight your agency. Simply adding exterior photos of your agency can help people find your location easier while using interior photos can be used to showcase your team members and office environment. 

Remember, not everything you post has to do with insurance. Whether it’s Halloween or National Pizza Day, there’s an endless number of quirky holidays that can make for fun visual content!  

The possibilities are endless for other visual content, including award ceremonies, community events, new team member spotlights and of course, any cute dogs either you or your team members own!

Encourage People to Leave Reviews

Earning positive reviews should always be a goal for your insurance agency. Research has shown that around 89 percent of consumers worldwide read online reviews before buying products. 

Not only do reviews affect your reputation, their quality and quantity matter as they are displayed prominently on your account. 

The number of positive reviews you get can also improve your ranking. While your customers may feel naturally inclined to leave reviews, it doesn’t hurt to encourage them to leave reviews
