May 20, 2024 - In the heart of the insurance world, Jeff Burtis and Karen Michaels stand out not just as partners in life but as trailblazers redefining the industry through a shared dedication toward spreading positivity.
When their paths first crossed at an Agents Hosting Agents event in 2018, it was immediately clear that they shared more than just professional interests. Despite managing their agencies from different states — with Jeff in Illinois and Karen in Maryland — their connection was undeniable, and they tied the knot three years later.
Together, Jeff and Karen helm five thriving multi-state licensed agencies, servicing over 32,000 property and casualty policies and plan to expand further in 2025. Their collaborative efforts and shared vision have garnered them multiple accolades, including being named both Top 10 Agents in the same year.
“We basically have a lot of the same thoughts and brain — just one is female, and one is male,” Jeff shares, reflecting on their deep connection.
Their Secret to Success
So, what’s their secret besides a robust, supportive marriage?
“If we’re going to talk about the top three things that make us successful as insurance agents, it’s culture, then culture and then culture,” Karen explains.
Their philosophy extends beyond their professional endeavors to encompass a holistic approach to life, maintaining a healthy work-life balance that supports both mental and physical wellness. “We keep ourselves in the right frame of mind, and we keep our bodies exercised,” Jeff notes.
This commitment to wellness and positive culture will form the cornerstone of their upcoming Melon University webinar, “Unlocking Agency Success: Strategies for Personal and Team Growth,” on June 19.
You and your team are invited to learn directly from their experiences on fostering a positive workplace and how doing so can translate into a higher return on investment for your business.
“We care a lot about our team and our culture, and we spend a lot of time on it. That’s one of the things we’re excited to talk about at our upcoming Melon University workshop,” Jeff states, highlighting the importance of their approach to team building and leadership. “We tend to get people to work hard for us, and we do a good job of attracting good talent — that’s one of our strengths.”
